Feeling Stressed?

Are you a caregiver feeling stressed?  What do you do about this?

There are many websites and a lot of information about how to de stress and unwind.  Sometimes all this information can be overwhelming in itself.  So if you have a few options to remember to help balance out the day it can be easier.  Creating balance each day in our own lives helps us with caring for our clients and family.  How many times do you say- “I don’t have time to care for myself?”

If you don’t take care of yourself – who will?  You deserve the time and attention to keep yourself mentally and physically strong.  Here are some of my favorites:

Go outside and take a walk– this is a perfect way to have some time for yourself, enjoy the fresh air, and a new environment.  Just moving forward is a benefit and clearing your mind of the days worries.

Breathing- DEEP breathing is so relaxing and peaceful.  Breathe in thru your nose gently and out thru your mouth gently.  – inhale- good energy, exhale – the stressors of the day.   Light a candle or listen to music as you breathe and relax.

Exercising- This is probably the last thing you want to do after a long day.  Stretching and doing light exercises can rejuvenate you.  There are so many yoga and exercise classes for free on line.   Do it with the whole family!  Usually we do this with our friends or at the gym unfortunately we cannot do this safely with covid.  Do facetime with your friends and exercise together.

Friends and Family- sometimes you just need to talk to someone to keep in touch with those that you love and care for.  Reaching out to others can take your mind off of your stressors.  If you cannot talk- then text or message or email them.  Reach out to someone you haven’t talked to in a long while.

Hobbies and interests- remember what you like to do when you are not working?  What are your hobbies?  Knitting, woodworking, crafts, sports, reading, painting and gardening?  Is there something you want to learn to do?  Take a class.  This does take some energy to take up an interest but it can be so rewarding.

Indulge yourself- watch your favorite movie or TV show, read a book, eat some ice cream, buy something new that you have wanted and saved up for.  You are worth it and these small indulgences can help perk you up after a stressful day.  Sometimes taking time off from work is important in order to rebalance. If stress continues to build up, burnout is more likely to occur.  So taking some preventive action now is important.  These are challenging times and knowing how to adapt and make healthy changes is vital.  After giving so much to others, you need to take care of yourself.
